The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition (PlayStation 5) 6
Just as you can be sure that the sun will rise in the east and set in the west, you can be sure that with a new console generation that you will see a re-release of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. We originally woke up in the illustrious world 10 years ago, and after all this time, it still feels pretty great to hear the line “Hey you. You’re finally awake.”

Now, I don’t want to talk too much about the base game because let’s face it if you’ve shown ANY interest in playing the game at some point, there have been MANY different ways to play. However, maybe you were too little to play or had no interest until now. The basis of the game is that you play as a created character that, not far into the game, discover you are Dragonborn. Your destiny is to defeat Alduin, a monstrous dragon who wants to destroy the world. That is the main questline, but there are so many options for other things you can do to amuse yourself. In fact, as soon as you get past the tutorial, you can go do anything you want!

Ok, now that we got that out of the way, you may be asking why you should bother buying Skyrim for the 5th time (don’t lie). The answer is very very simple. Because it is the best version of the game you will have played unless you played it on PC, to which case, why are you here and not playing it with mods to make it 8k 120 FPS? I joke but there is no lie when I said this is the best version. Take it from someone that has had hundreds of hours in-game between PS3 and PS4. The upgraded FPS to be 60 makes this play all the more different.

I felt that when I played the Special Edition on my PlayStation 4 Pro if I loaded up too many mods that the game would start to get clunky and slow, but the Anniversary Edition on PlayStation 5 seems to be able to take anything you throw at it like a champ!

I do want to stress to players that while the game is the best I’ve ever seen, it is STILL Skyrim. And what is Skyrim without randomly seeing your horse fly away, walking into a dungeon and everybody is mysteriously dead, enemies spawning from nowhere, among other fun stuff that I saw in one game session. The game is still a super glitchy glitchstorm, but honestly…I wouldn’t have it any other way at this point you know? I feel as if it would be a disservice to fans to patch that all now. It’s just another part of the charm of the game.

There has been some confusion as to the release of the game and if you may own it. Those folks that purchased the Special Edition for PlayStation 4/Xbox One will get a free updated version of the game for PlayStation 5/Xbox Series S/X. For $19.99/€19.99 though, you can get the Anniversary Edtion which gives you all the contents of the Creation Club content released at the time of the Anniversary Edition’s launch, including additional quests, armor, and gameplay modes. However, if you don’t own the Special Edition for PlayStation or Xbox, then you will look at $49.99/€54.99. Hopefully, that clears things up if anyone was confused.

I am constantly amazed by how smooth the game runs, how fast loading screens are now, and most of all, how exciting it is to play a game that I’ve already beaten multiple times. There is no time like now to put on your best Thieves Guild gear and start pickpocketing everyone in White Run. No better time to level up magic by attacking all the Empire jerks in Solitude. No better time to FUS RO DAH enemies off a cliff! If you have never played Skyrim before, there is never been a time like the present. If you have played it, get back to leveling up Dovahkiin…Alduin is waiting.
